Background Information
 |
NDCISA was organized on January 17, 1929
during the first “North Dakota Seed Growers School”.
Its original purpose was to “cooperate with the State Experiment
Station, the Pure Seed Laboratory and the Extension Service to promote
general crop improvement practices, to develop and grow supplies of seed
of the varieties best adapted to the state, and to make supplies of seed
easily available to the farmers of the state”.
Though some of the names have changed, today NDCISA members have
the same goals as their founding fathers. |
 |
NDCISA is
supported by the North Dakota State Seed Department, the North Dakota
State University Extension Service, and the North Dakota Agricultural
Experiment Station. In turn,
NDCISA has supported each of these agencies and together they have made a
fine contribution to North Dakota agriculture in the area of pure seed and
commercial crop production. We
have a unique set up in North Dakota; different from other states where,
three organizations, NDCISA, NDSU, and the State Seed Department work
together toward a common goal. |

 |
NDCISA sponsors
youth activities such as the 4-H
crops judging contest at the North Dakota Winter show. |
 |
NDCISA sponsors
scholarships to the NDSU College
of Agriculture. |
 |
NDCISA serves
as a communication link for North Dakota
crop producers in legislative matters relating to the
production and marketing of their commodities. |
 |
NDCISA is
instrumental in the development, production, and distribution of new
varieties. We coordinate with
the Foundation Seedstocks project and county Crop/Ag Improvement
Associations during new variety releases and increases. |
 |
Through a certified seed promotion campaign, we
encourage the use of certified seed. |
 |
NDCISA
membership consists of county Crop/Ag Improvement Associations. Each member of a county Crop/Ag Improvement Association is
automatically a member of the State Association. |
 |
NDCISA is a non-profit organization
funded by membership dues and a check-off on new varieties increased
through the county associations. |
 |
NDCISA actively supports research,
extension and educational programs at NDSU and throughout the State. |
 |
NDCISA encourages the development and
implementation of practical and scientific crop production practices. |
 |
Though agriculture has changed and continues to change,
NDCISA has been and will continue to be a strong supportive voice in North
Dakota agriculture. |
